Avana is a Village in Bahanaga Tehsil in Baleshwar District and  located 31 KM  from Balasore,  8 KM from Bahanaga and 175 KM from Bhubaneswar. Parvati did penance to merry Shiva:

Brahmani Temple, Avana is 25 km from Balasore. It was built in the 10th-11th century and is a protected monument of Odisha State Archeology. The Brahmini mata has three faces and eight armed hands. It is also known as Bharamani and Bharmour. There are statues of Sapta Rishis in the primese of temple. It is believed that Parvati did penance here to marry Shiva. The Sapt Rishis took a small test to know her commitment and advised Parvati not to marry Shiva. But Parvati refused, on this the Sapta Rishis pleased and paid their respects to Parvati.
