वराही

वराहिम तु प्रवाक्श्यामि महिषो रि स्मष्टम्,

वराह-सदृशम् घंट नादा चामरा-धारिणी।।

घण्टा चक्र गदा-धरा पद्म दानवेन्द्र विघातिनी,

लोकनाम च हितार्थाय सर्व व्याधी विनाशिनी ।।

  • वराही या वैराली वराह की शक्ति – विष्णु का वराह रूप है और उनका स्थान हमेशा मातृकाओं की पंक्ति में पांचवें नंबर पर होता है। वराही को पंच तत्वों (जल, अग्नि, पृथ्वी, वायु और आकाश) का प्रतीक माना जाता है। इनमें से प्रत्येक तत्व शेर, बाघ, हाथी, घोड़ा और गरुड़ (पक्षी-मानव) से संबंधित है, जो विष्णु के वाहन के रूप में सेवा करते हैं साथ ही इन्हें वराही की सवारी के रूप में भी चित्रित किया गया है।
  • वराही को यमी के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, जो यम की शक्ती हैं और उनके समान ही भैंसे की सवारी करती हैं।
  • उन्हें कभी-कभी ध्रुम-वराही और धूमावती (अंधकार की देवी) भी कहा जाता है और उनका वाहन एक हाथी है।
  • देवी पुराण के रक्ताबिज प्रकरण में वराही को एक शूकर के रूप में वर्णित किया गया हैं जो प्रेत पर बैठकर राक्षसों से अपने नोकदार दांतों से लड़ती है।
  • उनकी तीन आंखें और रंगरूप गहरे रंग का है, जो तूफानी-बादल के रंग से मिलता-जुलता है। उनके गहने मूंगे से बने हैं और वह अपने पैरों में नूपुर (पायल) पहने हुये हैं। उनके सिर पर करंड-मकुट सजा हैं और वह एक कल्प वृक्ष के नीचे बैठी हैं।
चतृर्भुजी रूप:
    • वराही को एक दंड (छड़ी) या हल, अंकुश, एक वज्र या तलवार, और पानीपात्र पकड़े हुये वर्णित किया गया है। कभी-कभी, उन्हें एक घंटी, चक्र, चामर (याक के बालों का गुच्छा जिसे पंखे के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया जाता है) और धनुष धारण किये दशार्या जाता है।
    • विष्णुधर्मोत्तरा के अनुसार वराही का बड़ा पेट और छह हाथ हैं, जिनमें से चार में वह दंड (सजा देने के लिये), खेताका (ढाल), खड्ग (तलवार), और पाशा (नोज) उठाती है; जबकि दो हाथ अभय और वरद मुद्रा में हैं।
    • पुर्व-कर्णगमा के अनुसार वह सारंग-धनुष, हल और मूसल को अपने हथियार के रूप में धारण करती है।
अष्टभुजी रूप :

जब आठ भुजाओं का चित्रण किया जाता है तब उनके छह हाथों में वह एक चक्र, शंख, गदा, कमल, पाश और हल धारण करती है; जबकि अन्य दो हाथों में अभय और वरदा मुद्राएं हैं।

कल्पवृक्ष की प्रतीकात्मकता

कल्पवृक्ष, जिसे कल्पतरु, कल्पद्रुम या कल्प पादप के नाम से भी जाना जाता है, एक इच्छा पूर्ण करने वाला दिव्य वृक्ष है। “समुद्र मंथन” के दौरान 14 रत्नों समुद्र से बाहर निकाले थे, कल्पवृक्ष उनमें से एक है। कल्पवृक्ष को इंद्र अपने साथ स्वर्गलोक में ले गए। कल्पवृक्ष की पहचान कई पेड़ों जैसे पारिजात, बड़, बबूल, शहतूत, महुआ, चूरी और शमी से भी की जाती है। ये पेड़ हमारी सभी जरूरतों को पूरा करते हैं।

Varahi

Varahim tu pravakshyami mahiso rismsthtam,

    • Varahi or Vairali is the power of Varaha – the boar-headed form of Vishnu. Varahi is symbolised the Fivefold elements (water, fire, earth, air and ether) and is always in the fifth position in the row of Matrikas. Each of these elements is related to lion, tiger, elephant, horse and Garuda (bird-human) which serve as vahana’s of Vishnu. She is depicted as riding, alternatively, a Garuda, a tiger, a lion, an elephant or a horse.
    • Varahi is also personified as Yami, the shakthi of Yama and riding a ram or a buffalo.
    • She is sometimes called Dhruma Varahi(dark Varahi) and Dhumavati (goddess of darkness) and her vahana is an elephant.
    • In the Raktabija episode of Devi Purana, Varahi is described in a boar form, fighting demons with her tusks while seated on a Preta (ghoul).
    • She is having three eyes and dark complexion resembling the colour of the storm-cloud. She wears ornaments made of corals and Nupura (anklets) on her legs. She adorned her head with Karanda-Makuta and seated under a Kalpaka tree.

When she depicted as four hands:

  • Varahi is described holding a Danda (rod of punishment) or plough, goad, a Vajra or a Sword, and a Panapatra. Sometimes, she is said to carry a bell, chakra, chamara (bunch of yak’s hair used as flywhisk) and a bow.
  • According to Vishnudharmottara Varahi have a big belly and six hands, in four of which she carries the Danda (staff of punishment), khetaka (shield), khadga (sword), and pasha (noose); while the two other hands gesture Abhaya and Varada mudras.
  • The Purvakaranagama says that she carries the she carries Sarnga-Dhanush (bow), the hala (plough) and musula (pestle) as her weapons.

When she depicted as eight hands:

When depicted having eight arms then in her six hands she is holding a discus, conch-shell, mace, lotus, noose and plough; while the other two hands gesture Abhaya and Varada mudras.

Symbolism of Kalpavriksha:

Kalpavriksha also known as kalpataru, kalpadruma or kalpapādapa, is a wish-fulfilling divine tree. During the “Samudra Manthan” 14th jewels were churned out from the ocean and kalpvriksha is one of them. Indra took Kalpavriksha to his paradise. Kalpavriksha is also identified with many trees such as parijata, baniyan, babool, Shahtoot, Mahua, Chiuri and Shami. These trees, fullfill all the needs of human being.
